I took it out to Somerset dam near Brisbane and caught nothing, and it's pushed me to try and research more on how to properly use my sounder. At the moment, I'm using it for depth but can't really say it's helped me catch fish at all - my success is purely down to repetition of fishing the same spots and knowing the structure around me. It's a 2d unit, and I find it quite hard to use but that's down to my lack of understanding. So I've had a sounder (garmin striker 4) on my kayak and have transferred it onto my boat (transducer mounted on transom). Anyone want to buy a good boat with a new Lowrance and a heap of other accessories? The last few Trout Seasons have been realy realy bad over this way. My biggest problem is learning how to use the Beast. Mind you I have dug a pit about 200 ftcubed and am now throwing money into it hand over fist to see if I can fill it up :woohoo: :sick.

The upgrade certainly makes a difference.Īnother thing I have been thinking about is I have a Uniden Marine Radio and was wondering if I should hook the 2 units together as that would be a near equivalent to an EPIRB(Unless I go down with the ship). If anyone downloads the update onto the existing Micro SD Card that is ok but make sure you delete the file straight away after installation or your Lowrance Elite 7 will want to update with that file every time you Fire It Up. I can forward on the settings I run if people are stuck, to save some people time, but the Elite 7 is quite easy to work with.

I don't think you'd need a software upgrade at this stage, everything is still pretty current and I haven't noticed any bugs. Once you've tweeked the unit to your style of fishing, you'll be amazed at what you'll show.
Until you do this correctly, both your sonar and downscan will be a mess and will give you no accurate readings other then bottom depth. With a huge range of sonar options, figuring out your sensitivity, background noise, chirp settings, and many other settings, takes you a day or so to nut out.
I still get good feedback up to around 20kts, after that information seems to drop off. I took my time installing my transducer, as poor angle and positioning can prove to be a nightmare down the track. I opted for the 83/200khz transducer as I don't do a lot of bluewater fishing and the majority is inside the bay, or no deeper then 30m(generally).

I took it straight out of the box, followed the install instructions and was ready to go. It came with a Navionics gold card, and has all current 'Marine park Zone' within SEQ, plus many points of interest.
I've had an Elite 7 Chirp for nearly twelve months now and cannot fault it.
